Poll...

Ok folks. Time to come clean. I love writing this blog, but does anyone really read what I have to say? Take the time and vote in the poll in the right hand column of my blog!

Its Wednesday Yet Again...

Man... Has this week flown by or what? Once again it was a busy day in the information tech world and yet again, you get gypped because I don't have time to think of nor write an awesome blog post for you all to read. I'll do my best, but I'm not promising much from this point forward...

First off, I used to work with a gal that thought the word gypped was a derogatory slur towards Gypsies. You know what, she may be right, but in the PC world we live in, thats just going a bit to far... Sorry if you're a gypsy and you're offended, but I'm offended every time you order soup at a restaurant and you ask for more crackers.

Secondly, and probably lastly, it is worth mentioning that FMD and I are heading to Marshfield yet again this weekend to visit a house we should have been able to visit two weeks ago had some jag-hole (sorry for offending any jaguars out there) had their stuff together and didn't feed us false info on another property... Oh well. I'm excited about it none the less. Its close to town, its a full log home, and well, its just pretty darn cool! No barn for FMD's horses yet, but it doesn't sound too tough to get one put up this summer yet... Anyways, check out the photos below and have a great day!

Work, Work, Work...

Project Team Meeting Notes – 04/29/08

Note Taker: BJ

Topics:

IS Admin Updates:
-Nothing new to report. Meetings have been cancelled for the past two weeks.
-HC and MF will be splitting Ambulatory Care Support after rollout. The timeline appears to be sometime during FY 2010.

Employee Attendance Policy:
-(Handout) – Formal Employee Attendance Policy
-Most notable policy is that there will no longer be “make up time”

Inventory Changes:
-Brainstorming about how the inventory requisition process will work at the new building. The ideas are as follows:
-Probably will have set pick up times for techs to pick up their equipment for medium and low priority calls.
-Project Team members will share the responsibility of getting equipment to the techs during this time.
-Team members will share the responsibility of receiving inventory in conjunction with the equipment pick up times.
-Will set up a meeting with RC and possibly GE to talk about what is needed in the new inventory process.
-To solve current issue with techs showing up for equipment right after sending tickets over, we are asking the Workstation Team to wait until they get their tickets back before coming and asking for equipment. High priorities are obviously an exception to the rule.
-MJ will talk with PA about the requisition process to see if anything needs to be updated or changed.
-Project team will likely take over a portion of the RMA process from the Workstation Team. A set workflow needs to be discussed before this is implemented however.

Project Plans:
-For major projects going forward, a project plan needs to be implemented.
-A project plan is basically a list of issues and resolutions for the project.
-Beth will send examples of MJ’s and DJ’s project plans for our reference.

Cross Training:
-With BJ leaving, cross training on printers needs to take place. Whenever a printer call comes in, BJ should grab either RB or YM to work through the issue with them to get them up to speed.

Project Updates/Round Table/Etc.:
-The Project Team will be taking the 3 drawer filing cabinet near them to the new building. They will be getting rid of the 2 drawer cabinet along with the Cadence documents stored in them.

Apparently, I'm Old

The theme of the past few weeks has been my age. On several occasions, I've had people tell me that I seem older than I am. Some of these people knew ahead of time how old I was, but when people I'm meeting for the first time have to ask how old I am, and then are shocked to find out that I'm only 27, well, I'm not sure if I should take that as a compliment or an insult.

I think there are differences in how everyone perceives things (insert "States The Obvious Award" here), especially along genders. My co-worker (female) turns 31 today. We teased her about being 38 for a while and she was offended. The next day we teased her about only being 29 and wasn't as offended, but still wanted to be "just 31". Not old, not young. Apparently 31 is the Goldilocks of all ages to her... To each their own.

In the same token, I don't know how to accept the fact that people think I'm older. Its a compliment in the fact that I'm "wiser" than the normal 27 year old or I have the capacity to think through and solve problems as though I've "been there and done that". Its a knock in a way because it means I'm not as youthful as I should be. I take life to serious and have a hard time letting go sometimes. Ok. Most of the time...

How does age affect perception? How do we develop our "age opinions"? I guess I'm not sure but I'll take a stab at it anyways. When I perceive someone's age, I try to base it on where I am and where I think I'd be at that age or that behavior. That doesn't make much sense, but bear with me. If I see someone out on the road, I instantly think the person is old and I start yelling for them to get out of my way. In most cases I end up passing the person and they're, well, old. Every once and a while, I pass that person and find a teen who is with his or her parent and they're just learning to drive. Haven't we all been there before? When I was young, I never thought of my self as an "old" driver yet, in all actuality, I certainly drove like one. Once I got confidence, I was speeding by everyone and taking unnecessary risks. When I encounter someone like this, I immediately jump to the conclusion they are the same age as I was when I did stuff like that, late teens, early twenties. Once again, I'm not always right. I've been blown away by "old grandmas" in their Buicks burning down the interstate just the same.

Whats my point, well, honestly, I don't know. I do know that in most cases, people are definitely more than meets the eye. Looks aren't everything. Damn, I don't know how many times I've heard that... The older I get though, the more I realize that. Have I realized this sooner than most folks and therefore seem older? I don't know. Maybe. Is it unreasonable for me to expect that other 27 year olds understand these things the same as I do? No, but I sure do. Environment makes us who we are and what we are. Once again, its a worn out sentiment that really has been ringing home with me lately.

I try not to let my prejudices dictate my view of the world, but the fact of the matter is, it happens. My beliefs sure aren't the same as yours, but thats what makes us individuals. When those beliefs conflict, thats when we have trouble understanding and accepting differences.

To bring this all to a conclusion, I want to ask one more question... Obviously, we are who we are. Our family and friends and the world has each shaped us uniquely. Though I'll admit we're all unique in our own ways, how do those differences vary so much when it comes to those who are closest to us? I learned a lot from my parents about life and how one should approach it, but when it comes down to it, they don't always practice what they preach. I learned a lot from my church growing up, yet my opinions about faith and humanity differ greatly. My friends may have had a huge impact on many of my beliefs and I thank them for that, but when I think of those who taught me the most, and those that I align myself with regularly, how does it seem that some days they are the opposite of what they've impressed on me?

Am "older" in so many ways it causes me to seem that way to others, but when deep down I know I'm truly a greenhorn in this game we call life?

Thirsty Thursday

Today, I can understand why college students drink on Thursdays. I still can't, no matter how hard I try, understand why they drink until they puke and/or piss themselves and/or crap themselves and/or black out and don't remember what they just spent $50+ the previous night doing... Oh well. One of life's mysteries remains unsolved.

Humpday.

Yup. Its Wednesday. The best day of the week! Why you ask, well I just guess you had to be there... In an case, its been a busy day today and work and I've really felt productive! As opposed to yesterday being busy because people are dolts and I wanted to hit someone(s) with a bat. All in all, the week is flying by! Next thing you know, I'll be in South Dakota this weekend with FMD celebrating her uncle's wedding. Gotta respect road trips! Speaking of road trips, I'll be making one tonight to the fabulous city of Baraboo, WI and meeting with my mom for dinner and to pass my dog off on her while I'm in SD. Gotta respect dog sitting! I guess thats about it! Not much is going on otherwise in my cranium so until tomorrow....

Monday Strikes Again!

No, nothing terrible happened, its just an interesting blog title. You should also note that for some reason my typing is particularly atrocious today and that if something doesn't make sense, please forgive me and try to read between the lines.

The rainy weekend found FMD and I in Marshfield once again looking for homes. The first property was wonderful and the listing agent's assistant told us it contained 30+ acres of wooded land for a phenomenal price. We spent way to much time visiting it and we were late to all our other appointments. A couple other nice homes, but just didn't fit our fancy, passed the afternoon, and we stopped into our last house for the day. We were 2-3 hours late for the appointment (read: spent too long at the first house and go lost trying to find the others) and we weren't able to see it other than just through the windows. It was a beautiful log cabin looking house and both FMD and I were impressed.

More exciting than the house hunting was the meeting with the mortgage man. FMD and I apparently have done very well in the credit department and we shouldn't have any problems finding and affording the home of our dreams. He said we could even factor in building to improve the property into our mortgage because we were such solid loan candidates. Exciting news!

The rest of the weekend was spent with FMD's family in Spirit and we basically hung out on the farm. We tried moving the horse feeder, but it tipped over and we had to take another hour to stand it up and get it repositioned. We also headed over to PS and PM's acres to check out their maple syrup cooking operation. Impressive to say the least!

Once back in Madison, FMD and I started talking in depth about the properties that were on the top of our house hunting list. We looked at county tax maps to determine property boundaries and found that the first home we looked at didn't contain any wooded area at all. Total bummer! We wasted so much time looking at the house and property all to find out we were going to be 2 hours late to the house that really tickled our fancy... So... Another trip to Marshfield is coming in a couple weekends and we'll hopefully be able to check things out better then!

The Week In Review

Well, its been a week all right. From the sleep deprived weekend to the house hunting weekend, not much has happened. Yup. Boring. My life and many others. I've talked with a couple folks this week and it just seems that everyone is in a funk. I blame it on the nice weather that won't stay. It just teases us and puts everyone in a bad mood. Meh.

Wednesday found a note on FMD and I's front door saying they're going to be showing our apartment to prospective renters. I don't know if any of you are renters, but have your landlords done this to you too? I f'ing HATE the idea of letting complete strangers poke around my apartment and invading my life... I just can't stand the thought of it! And its not going to get any better for the next couple months either... Do I have to clean my apt every time someone is visiting? F that. Do I have to put my dirty underwear in the clothes hamper before someone comes to look at the apt? F that. Do I want to hang a big f'ing sign in the apt that says "HEY YOU! YOU DON'T WANT TO LIVE HERE BECAUSE THE NEIGHBORS ABOVE THIS APT ARE ANNOYING WITH LOUD DOGS AND WILL WAKE YOU UP AT ALL HOURS OF THE NIGHT"? You betcha. Anyways, I hate the idea of all these intruders in my house casing the place so they know how much "stuff" we have in case they want to come back and rob us... Paranoid? Yes. Totally out of the question? Not by any stretch of the imagination... I've gotta get out of the city.

On to buying houses. FMD are visiting a few this weekend again in Marshfield. Instead of someone intruding on our apt, we're going to be intruding on someone's actual honest to god house. Now that the shoe is on the other foot, it just feels weird. I can't imagine moving all around and buying and selling houses all the time like people do...

I guess thats about it. I'll leave you with these words of advice from my wife. If you're going to take a microwave out of your back seat so no one "steals it" while you've at class, don't put your wallet on top of the car and drive off like that. If you do leave your wallet up there and don't find it there when you look for it later, call and cancel/hold all your credit cards immediately! Thankfully, she heeded the second part of her own advice because once her wallet was recovered it was missing all the cash and credit cards. Thank god for honest people like the one who tracked all over creation to get the wallet back to her, piss on the people who don't care and steal other's property, and in some cases like identity theft, steal their lives...

So someone started talking to me about the number one song when blah blah... Whatever. I didn't think anything of it because well, I usually don't care about stuff like that. Something Bit Me!

Ok. I'm a slacker once again. Meh. Things have been a little hectic since this past weekend's World's Largest Trivia Contest... More on that later. Until then, enjoy Charlie biting his brother. I don't know why, but when I saw this on someone else's blog, I just lmao!

Screw The Cubs

I'm a Brewers fan. Plain and simple. My passion for baseball has only come on in the last few years, but I remember going to the ball park every summer with my family. While I'm a fan of the game, I'm not a fan of the clubs that abuse the system. Their answer to solve problems is to throw more money at it and you'll end up with a winner. In some cases, that works. In others, well, it just doesn't. My personal to 3 most despised baseball teams are:

1. The Yankees - This is for obvious reasons. They have a single player that is making more than a whole team collectively. There's just something wrong with that.

2. The Redsox - Number one, their fans are obnoxious and you can't understand a word they say. I do give props to the phrase "Wicked Pissa" though. Makes me smile just thinking about saying it. Give it a try! Secondly, if you mention the Yankees, this team is just about always mentioned right after them... Blah.

3. The Cubs - Now that they're division rivals, its just a simple matter of it has to be. If you're a Packers fan, you don't like the Bears or the Vikings. If you're a Badgers fan, you don't like the Gophers. If you're a Brewers fan, you can't stand the Cubs. Sorry folks, thats just the way things work. I also can't stand the talk of the 100 year curse. Blah. I like goats. I don't know what purpose they serve on earth other than to be gimicks in Adam Sandler skits and to feed those ice cream cones filled with pellets at the zoo, but I do like the fact that when the Cubs were cursed, it took on the form of a goat. Cubs fans will say "Screw the goat!" but I on the other hand say, "Goat, screw the Cubs!"

Ok. There's your journey through my mind today. Talk amongst yourselves...

Don't Want To Disappoint My Fans!

Once while golfing on a very crowded day at the golf course, I hit a terribly errant shot into a tree near the next tee box. A somewhat attractive lady was playing with her dad ahead of us and while we were waiting for the group ahead of them, we would chat. And by chat, I mean we played a lot of cat and mouse (flirting if you can't read between the lines) much to her father's dismay (especially since I had just been recently engaged and my friend was already married).

Anywho, when hit the shot, I was forced to yell "FORE!" to make sure they were ready to be hit with a golf ball. Well, they never heard me and the ball never hit them so that was really neither hear nor there. I got up to my ball, I, like always, proceeded to kick the ball out from under the tree and lined up for my shot. The attractive lady teased me and said that I needed to play the ball as it lied (is that how you spell that?) or it was a one shot penalty. Me being the cocky guy I was and me being the guy who had already drank three hard lemonades by the 6th hole, I manned up and hit the ball from under the tree. The shot was yet another poor one (maybe that had to do with the fact that I was as previously stated under the influence of the adult version of lemonade) and I would have been far better off to take the stroke and line up the shot like I originally intended (though I didn't intend to take the stroke penalty because, well, when I golf, I don't keep score). Needless to say I could have predicted the poor shot further because immediately before starting my back swing, I smirked at the pretty lady and said, "I'm only doing this because I don't want to disappoint my fans."

What the hell was that? Why would someone like me who's afraid to say boo to someone I don't know say something dumb like that? Ok. You get the gist of the story. She was attractive and I had been drinking. FMD as you're reading this, these are the reasons I don't drink heavily anymore.

Ok. My point in telling you this story? Well, according to my blog stat keeper, several people have visited my blog today and they found, well, nothing. Nothing new at least. I slacked yesterday and didn't blog but no one's perfect right? So for those of you who venture back later tonight or tomorrow or the next day(s), find solace in the fact that I'm happy to have readers care about my normally ho-hum life, and I don't want to disappoint any of my fans!

House Hunting

Many have asked, and for those of you who haven't, I'll tell you anyways... FMD and I went house hunting on Saturday and, well, we don't have any immediate prospects. After driving all around B.F.E., we only actually saw 2 houses. One that we saw would be ideal, if it weren't 48 acres in the middle of town. Who wants that much land and to have neighbors all around you? Not this guy... The other one we saw was nice, but the land was 40 acres of, well, for the lack of a better term, steer shit. It was all pasture land and if I'm going to spend a great deal of money on a chunk of land, well, its going to be partially wooded.

The two houses we visited didn't appeal to me at all. One house was in the middle of a tilled field and had no lawn or no trees... Once again doesn't meet the criteria. The other one looked ideal on paper with pasture and wooded land, but the description failed to mention that in the corner of the 40 acre lot, you got to share a driveway with someone who's house isn't much more than 30 or 40 feet away. I don't mind neighbors, but that really doesn't seem like country living to me.

Oh well. The search will continue. More info as it comes... Until then, have a great one!

Can't Wait

Tomorrow is the day FMD and I start looking for homes in the Marshfield area! Scary as it is, I'm really looking forward to it. I've been reading a book about buying your first home and what you should do, and some of it makes sense and other stuff, wow, I'm way behind in the learning curve... Hopefully things will go smoothly for us! The big check that looms in the distance is starting to look bigger and bigger as it draws nearer and nearer. I just wish there weren't so damn many zeros!

Ok. Now that I'm writing up my daily post, I realize I'm just doing it and going through the motions because I really don't want to be at work today. I'm a little bored and the weather outside is pretty nice! Its supposed to be even nicer tomorrow! It makes me wish we could go north after we get done visiting houses, but since FMD has to make up clinical hours since she was sick earlier this week, we'll be heading home on Sunday. The good news about that is that I'll probably get a chance to watch my first Brewers game of the year!

Hmmm. I guess thats about it. Not much is coming to mind that is truly blog worthy. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Kickin' A AND Taking Names

You'd better watch yourself around this guy today... If both your A and your N were on my list, I didn't stop until I had them both! With all the fingers that were pointed at me yesterday and really no time or energy to do anything about it, I had a pretty craptastic day. This morning however, I went one by one down the list and "followed up" on all the issues that happened and that were blamed on me. Guess what? It turns out everyone was in the business of buck-passing yesterday and today, well, that buck stopped here. Wow. It felt good to work with people and make them understand the work accountability. Yes, they're accountable to do their job and yes, you can count on me to do mine. Have I made mistakes before, you bet I have! Tons of them probably! I'm not afraid to admit I made a mistake and then do what I have to do to fix it however! Ok. Enough of this soap box. I'm going home and relaxing tonight and getting ready for house hunting on Saturday!

Bloggity, Blog Blog

Here's my token post for the day. Nothing to report other than its been a hellacious day for me...

Oh yeah and that FMD got her job in Marshfield! Drop her a line and tell her congrats!

Forget Marshfield!

I've had it. I love my job and I'm staying in Madison. FMD and I talked about it and there is an abundance of culture here in town and we'd like to raise our family to be aware of everything the world has to offer and we've figured there's no better place to do that than Madison! Take care everyone! Oh and one other thing...

April Fools!!!!
